Best Film for 4 Year Olds
Perhaps one of the best movies that I have watched with my son is Shaun the sheep.
This is perfect for 4 year olds but more than that it has lots of humour on an adult level as well so most adults enjoy it as much as the kids do. We saw Shaun the Sheep at the cinema and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it at all but it was very funny and watchable. I would recommend it ot people even if they haven't got kids. |
Home
Other recent movies my 4 year old has seen at the cinema include Home. This tells the story of an Alien who doesn't really fit in with his own kind. He meets a human girl and they embark on a journey together to find her mother. On this journey he learns a lot about good human qualities.
Both my son and I really loved this movie. The Alien is cute and it is very funny in some places too. It's a good family movie for kids of all ages. |
More To Watch Out For 2015
Some others to watch out for in 2015 include Thomas and Friends - Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure. At the time of writing you can still see it in cinemas but it is released to watch on DVD and instant video on September 28th. It's 63 minutes long which is a lot shorter than most movies so great for those kids who have shorter attention spans.
The Spongebob movie is another one to consider. I took boy my 4 year old and 8 year old to see it. It wasn't one of my favourite movies but they both enjoyed it. I do think a bit of it went over my 4 year old's head but he seemed happy to sit and watch it.

Best Movie 2014 for 4 Year Olds
Another recommended movie for 4 year olds that I watched with my son is Paddington.
Again this is another movie I think I enjoyed as much as my son did. My little boy was actually 3 when he watched this for the first time but he would love it just as much at age 4. We actually went to the cinema to watch it twice, we both liked it that much. |
Top Movie 2013 - Despicable Me 2
After the success of Dispicable Me, 2013 saw the release of Despicable Me 2 and this has been a huge hit with kids everywhere mainly because of those loveable little characters the Minions. If you're heading to the cinema this summer (2015) be sure to check out the new Minions movie too. We haven't seen it yet but it's the next one on our list.
Another reason the Despicable Me films are so funny is the humour. They make the kids laugh and the adults too. |
Top Disney Pixar Films
There are lots of great Pixar films and many of them you will have heard of so I will give a run down of my son's favourites and why we all like them.
Toy Story
There are so many Disney Pixar films which are perfect for 4 year olds,
I'm not sure where to begin. One of my 4 year old boy's top favourties is probably Toy Story. He loves the whole trilogy. The great thing about Toy Story is that it will appeal to the whole family. My favourite has to be Toy Story 3 which had me welling up at the end of the film but not the kids (it goes over their heads). |
Disney Cars
The next favourites include Cars.
Cars tells the story of Lightening Mcqueen who is a top race car. Its a story which emphasises how friends and relationships should be highly valued over fame and fortune (quite relevant in today's world).
My 4 year old boy has loved this movie ever since he was 2 and still asks to watch it. If your 4 year old hasn't seen it most likely they will like it. He also likes Cars 2

More Top Pixar films
My son has loved Wall-e since he was a toddler. I love the first part of the film, in my opinion it's magical to see how Pixar develop the relationship between the two robots Wall-E and Eva. The second half of the film portrays the humans who have left Earth and now reside on a spaceship but can Wall-e and Eva help the humans return to their home planet?
Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo are two more Pixar films that we've enjoyed. Finding Nemo is probably more enjoyed by my 4 year old niece than by my son but its been good all the same.

Films for 4 Year Old Girls
Obviously you can't have a list of films for a 4 year old girl without including the movie Frozen. My son hadn't seen the film but used to come home singing the songs from the movie everyday as he has learned them by listening to the girls at nursery!
The films are some classics that my niece has really enjoyed. They didn't hold my 4 year old boy's attention as well so perhaps they're better films for 4 year old girls. She absolutely loves Mary Poppins and wants to watch it again and again. Nanny McPhee has also been a hit but I think this is a great film if you have older children who want something to watch too.

Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast
Most 4 year old girls would also like the Tinkerbell movies by Disney. There are quite a few of them to watch. The latest one is Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast.
Other Disney movies girls this age might like include Tangled (the Disney version of Rapunzel). There's also The Princess and The Frog and The LIttle Mermaid (which is definitely one that has stood the test of time). |
More Animated Films
There are lots of great animated films that 4 year olds will love. Here are a few ideas.
Robots is an animated film with the voice of Robin Williams that my son loved. It tells the story of Rodney Copperbottom, son of a robot dishwasher who wants to follow his dreams and become an inventor. On his adventure to achieve his goal he meets some good friends and comes across some less desirable characters who present a big challenges to overcome. |
